I have many friends who like to cook, some of them are quite passionate about it. What always kills me is the lack of quality utensils in the their respective kitchens. I am a firm believer that if you don’t have a good set of kitchen gear you’re more likely to eat out.
Here is a breakdown of what you need in order to cook like a chef.
First and foremost make sure you have a good set of knives. Despite popular belief this doesn’t have to be a huge set in fact you really need only 4 knives in your set and can get away with 3. First off and most important is a good chef’s knife and you don’t need some insanely expensive German knife, I believe really expensive knives are like Italian cars - nice to look at but really tough to maintain. You can find JA Henckel knife between $50-$100 dollars and trust me it’s worth every penny. Most chefs use a knife called Global, they are Japanese run for about $100 and are easy to maintain.
